High Guardian Spice
What is it? The long-awaited Crunchyroll original follows four magical girls, each named after a herb, as they train to be heroes and use their powers to defend their realm against menacing forces.
Who made it? High Guardian Spice is not anime, as it isn’t Japanese: it is the first series to be produced at Crunchyroll’s young Burbank studio. The creator and showrunner is Cuban-American artist Raye Rodriguez (production artist and animator, Fox’s Animation Domination Hi-Def).
Where and when can I watch it? All 12 episodes will stream on Crunchyroll from October 26.
What is it? A rare Amazon animated original for older audiences. Set around Fairfax Avenue, L.A.’s streetwear Mecca, the series satirizes hypebeast culture and Gen Z interests in general, focusing on four middle-school kids who want to be cooler than they are.
Who made it? Longtime friends Matt Hausfater, Aaron Buchsbaum, and Teddy Riley are among the executive producers. Animation studio Titmouse (Big Mouth) and Serious Business are producing with Amazon Studios.
Where and when can I watch it? The series will be available on Prime Video from October 29.
