‘Get Jiro’ Trailer Enters A Bloody World Where Chefs Rule Los Angeles

Adult Swim has released the first trailer for Get Jiro, its animated adaptation of the graphic novels by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose. The series will premiere Saturday, October 3 as part of the network’s Toonami block, before streaming on HBO Max the following day.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios, Get Jiro takes place in a post-apocalyptic, near-future Los Angeles where chefs occupy the highest rungs of society and food functions as both currency and a marker of class.

Rick Morales (Mortal Kombat Legends, Kite Man: Hell Yeah!) directs, with Jonathan Hoekstra serving as art director. Brian Tee (Chicago Med) voices Jiro, a mysterious sushi chef from the city’s Outer Ring who sets out on a violent quest for revenge. Titus Welliver (Bosch: Legacy), Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and Justin Kirk (Weeds) round out the series’ main voice cast.

In a release, Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen explained:

We at Adult Swim were huge fans of Bourdain and Rose’s graphic novels, so when our partners at WBA first mentioned it, we were all in. Like everything Bourdain did, this story starts with food and then generously reaches out into all directions to cover culture, obsession, and what makes humanity problematic, but in the end, inspiring. What you get is a wildly original, cinematic series, the kind of thing that we feel is right at home on Adult Swim.

Alessandro Tanaka and Brian Gatewood developed the series from Bourdain and Rose’s comics, which featured artwork by Langdon Foss and Alé Garza. The pair executive-produced alongside Jordan Blum and outgoing president of Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios, and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, Sam Register.
