Amazon MGM Studios is expanding its plans for the on-screen Warhammer universe with a new animated series spun off from its Emmy-nominated Secret Level anthology series and centered on the Deathwatch, an elite military force drawn from the various Space Marine chapters of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
According to Variety, the untitled series is being written by John Orloff, whose credits include Apple TV’s Masters of the Air and HBO’s Band of Brothers. Further details, including the show’s animation studio, episode count, and release date, have not been announced, although Henry Cavill, a key figure in the streamer’s live-action ambitions for the franchise, will produce.
Cavill, a longtime and highly public fan of the tabletop franchise, has been involved with Amazon’s adaptation plans since they were first announced in 2022. Amazon and Warhammer owner Games Workshop finalized their agreement in late 2024, establishing creative guidelines for a broader screen universe encompassing films and series.
Amazon previously featured Warhammer 40,000 in the first season of its adult animated video game anthology Secret Level. A second Warhammer episode, this time set within the fantasy-oriented Age of Sigmar universe, is planned for the show’s upcoming second season.
