Warner Bros. Animation To Adapt Iconic ‘Batman: Knightfall’ Run As Multi-Part Animated Event
Warner Bros. Animation, DC, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment have officially announced Batman: Knightfall, a new multi-part animated event adapting one of the most acclaimed and influential storylines in the history of Batman comics. The announcement was made during the Warner Bros. Animation panel, The Art Knight: Batman in Animation, at New York Comic Con.
Currently in production, the first installment, Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall, is scheduled for release in 2026. Warner Bros. has not yet confirmed how it will be distributed, but based on the studio’s long-standing approach to its DC animated films, it’s most likely headed for a digital and home entertainment release, with possible availability on streaming platforms afterward. Prime Video seems like a strong contender, having hosted several recent Batman productions, including Batman: Caped Crusader and the upcoming Bat-Fam series, spun off from the super-fun 2023 holiday special, Merry Little Batman.
The first film is directed by Jeff Wamester (Justice League: Warworld) and written by Jeremy Adams (Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Superman: Man of Tomorrow). Rick Morales serves as supervising producer, with Jim Krieg and Kimberly S. Moreau producing. Sam Register and Michael Uslan, long-time stewards of the Batman property in the audiovisual space, are on board as executive producers.
Inspired by the legendary 1990s DC Comics arc by Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, Dennis O’Neil, Peter David, Jo Duffy, and artists including Jim Aparo, Graham Nolan, Norm Breyfogle, and Jim Balent, Batman: Knightfall will chronicle the Caped Crusader’s battle against the calculating and formidable Bane, the villain who infamously broke the Bat.
In Part 1: Knightfall, when Bane unleashes Gotham’s entire Rogue’s Gallery from Arkham Asylum, Batman faces his most grueling challenge yet, testing both his physical endurance and psychological resilience.
The reveal capped off an in-depth panel discussion on the artistry and evolution of Batman in animation, where creators reflected on the character’s enduring influence across media.
Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall will debut in 2026 from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
