'X-Men '97' 'X-Men '97'

Disney+ and Marvel Animation have released a trailer for X-Men ’97, an upcoming reboot of the iconic comic-based series X-Men: The Animated Series, which will begin streaming on March 20.

The 10-episode series picks up where its predecessor left off and unspools in a world where mutants use their supernatural powers to protect humans who fear and often despise them.

Rumors that the original show’s creators were attempting to reboot their show started popping up in 2019, and in late 2021, X-Men ’97 was announced by Disney+ with an expected release date in 2023.

Beau DeMayo, known for his work on The Witcher, is the show’s head writer, and episodes are directed by Jake Castorena (Reign of the Supermen), Chase Conley (Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts), and Emi Yonemura (Gen: Lock). The series is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and DeMayo. X-Men ’97 features music by The Newton Brothers, who appear to have made the wise decision to stick with the original show’s legendary theme song.

In another decision sure to please fans of the show, most of the surviving voice cast from the original series are returning to reprise their roles, including Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Lenore Zann as Rogue, George Buza as Beast, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler.

New voice cast members include Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, JP Karliak as Morph, AJ LoCascio as Gambit, Holly Chou as Jubilee, Isaac Robinson-Smith as Bishop, and Matthew Waterson as Magneto.
