Workers At Vancouver’s ‘Charlie the Wonderdog’ Studio Icon Creative Move Toward First Union Contract

The Vancouver CG studio and Canadian Animation Guild have reached a tentative agreement covering more than 800 employees.

WildBrain animation workers ratify union deal with The Canadian Animation Guild, joining their colleagues at Titmouse Vancouver.

The vote marks a stunning setback for the young Canadian Animation Guild IATSE Local 938, which was founded in 2020.

With nearly 800 workers, Icon is one of Vancouver’s largest animation industry employers.

Workers in Canada continue to gain momentum in their efforts to organize the country’s animation industry.

Wildbrain is the third Canadian studio to unionize with IATSE, joining Titmouse’s Vancouver unit and game developer Anemone Hug Interactive.

Wildbrain handles animation on numerous major series including ‘The Snoopy Show,’ ‘Carmen Sandiego,’ ‘Sonic Prime,’ and ‘Fireman Sam.’

This is the first Canadian animation agreement for IATSE, which also represents the L.A. industry.

The union’s main goal is to ensure that ex-employees receive their severance payments.
