12 Most Expensive Puppets Sold At The Laika Auction

Laika Auction

Heritage Auctions scored a big hit last Thursday with an auction of stop motion puppets, props, and other artwork from Laika’s three features: Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls. It was the first time that artwork from the films had ever been made available to the public. The auction of more than 250 lots generated over $1 million in sales, with 100% of the lots selling.

While the drawings and paintings sold respectably, the puppets were the real stars of the auction, with twelve of the figures achieving over $20,000, and twenty others selling for over $10,000 apiece.

The top lot of the auction was an Evil Other Mother puppet that sold for $50,190, five times its pre-auction estimate of $10,000. The top artwork lot was a Boxtrolls movie poster concept from the ad agency Weiden+Kennedy, which sold for $4,063.

Below are all the pieces that sold for over $20,000:

  • oh wow, I would have loved one of those Norman or coraline puppets D: It would be awesome if they posted the models online so I could 3D print it!

  • Andrew Hickinbottom

How much did the Courtney Babcock paranorman one go for? I would have loved that one – she was great!

  • oslaf

I’d pay big money for some of Snatcher’s (spoiler alert) allergic reaction face casts; even the inbetweens or whatever.

  • Harrison

Just give me the Snatcher puppet and I’ll be a happy camper.

  • Woah, mama… Those puppets definitely did not get crushed in someone’s basement.

  • clumsy

And my puppet only costs 12 dollars
