Take a Close Look Behind the Scenes of ‘Hotel Transylvania 2′

In March, Sony Pictures Animation released the teaser trailer for Hotel Transylvania 2, slated for release September 25, 2015. Today they have made available the first of three videos dissecting that trailer:

This first segment, featuring production designer Mike Kurinsky, unpacks the trailer’s myriad visual and design elements, including the character design of Dennis—Mavis and Johnny’s baby boy—the construction (and deconstruction) of the rickety jump tower, and the secluded camp setting.

Animation artists know well the level of detail, thought, and craft that can go into even the briefest bit of animation. It’s nice to see Sony Pictures Animation educating the public about the efforts of its staff.

Next week’s segment will feature insights from director Genndy Tartakovsky.

Actually the haters did post but Cartoon Brew censored them.

Censorship is a silly and inaccurate word to use. We have worked hard to define our commenting guidelines as clearly as possible: http://www.cartoonbrew.com/commenting
As long as commenters follow them, their comments will appear on the site. If a commenter feels that their comment wasn’t approved and should have been, we welcome them to share their concerns by sending a note to http://www.cartoonbrew.com/suggest and we will absolutely take a look.

The first film was actually OK…After i watched it the first time, I watched it again with the volume off and it is an animation masterclass! Looking forward to the next one to be honest..Great REF for animation students.

I get she’s a vampire, but the complete lack of redesign or difference between “Mavis” and “Johnny”, whereas they’re now parents to a toddler, is a bit jarring and strange. I feel like there could’ve been, I dunno, some sort of maturation in that time, for either of them, at least from a design standpoint?
