Here’s a trend we can get behind: cosplaying as an animator. At least two Hayao Miyazaki cosplayers have turned up at U.S. anime conventions in the past year. One also turned up in the Ghibli documentary The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness.

Says one Miyazaki impersonator, “Everybody just wants to talk to me for some reason..like [telling me], ‘You’ve been an inspiration.’ It’s an amazing experience to tell you for sure.”

Miyazaki’s fans in Japan have been dressing up like him since at least 2010:
