Japanese Beverage Drinkers Can Create Disney Animation with Their Bottles

A Japanese beverage company is encouraging its drinkers to animate their drink bottles after they’ve finished drinking its contents. They are printing a series of Disney characters on the sides of their tea-drink packaging. Each drawing is numbered, like this:

After someone has collected all the bottles in a series, they can photograph the draiwngs to create an animation sequence:

    it’s a Flip-Bottle!

I don’t know why, but I initially thought it was about the bottles being able to animate rather than a collection of these bottles can create an animation. It is still pretty awesome regardless.

Well it looks like one bottle can animate, just not very much.

If you drink enough and line them up, you can see them move

    Dang, now I want one.

I’m tempted to say “it doesn’t get more stupid”, but from experience I know advertising will find a way soon.

“more stupid”? This is brilliant marketing. It isn’t intrusive, it doesn’t insult your intelligence, and it’s a fun thing to do and it’s appealing even without context. What more could you want?

    Gotta collect them all…

  • Mark Mayerson

It looks like the Mickey animation is from The Symphony Hour.

    • Frank Fontaine

      “Tea and Symphony”?

This might be the first major animation studio flip book advertising tie-in to take advantage of cel phone cameras on earth.

Very well thought out. I wonder how long it took to find them all?

  • Ara

This is a brilliant marketing ploy. The more bottles you buy, the more animation you see. Those evil geniuses…well at least someone posted a video, otherwise I would feel slightly sorry for whoever actually went out to buy all the bottles..

I wonder if this ‘Japanese beverage company’ pays for the copyrights to plaster mickey mouse all over their product. If not, this is pretty funny.
