“The Ambiguously Gay Duo” go live!

Couldn’t let the weekend pass without sharing the latest episode of The Ambiguously Gay Duo from this week’s Saturday Night Live. This episode goes live-action with Steve Carell, Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon and Steven Colbert – never has a live action version of a cartoon been so accurate:

(Thanks, Ed Austin)

  • That cast could make a pretty good feature out of this.

  • Anoniguy

…I could watch more episodes like this. Animation is king and all but the live action parts -really- worked!

  • Is there a story behind why JJ Sedelmaier didn’t do the animation this time?

  • It was spread around to do the thing in a week and a half. Wachtenheim/Marianetti animated with stuff we dug out of the J.J. Sedelmaier Productions archive. We handles all design and I helped with the live costumes with endless models and even a maquette of Ace. We all pitched in. . .

    • It was awesome job. Thank you! Really funny!

  • And given the constant rumors around Tom Cruise, casting him as the evil genius was genius.

  • Karl Hungus

Wow, that is Tom Cruise. No way…

  • Tom Cruise ?! Bighead was Steve Carell. Stephen Colbert was Brainio, Fred Armisen was Lizardo, and Ed Helms was Half-Scary. . .

    • d2k

Come on. Live action Bighead was clearly an uncredited Tom Cruise. Looked nothing like Carell.

  • It’s on my bucket list to be punched out by Jon Hamm’s ass.

Brilliant! Deserving of a place in the SNL Hall of Fame – and when you think of the best of the best that show has seen since the 1970’s that is saying something!

  • AaronSch

That was the only part of this week’s SNL that actually made me laugh. I just wanna know, “Where do Ace and Gary get those wonderful toys?”

  • Sorry, gang, I saw it as D.O.A. For me, it was categorically unfunny. Did not laugh once at this skit, animated or live action. Comedy has an instant critic; you either laugh or you don’t. It was dull as dishwater.

  • TJR

I was almost in tears from laughter at this one.

I haven’t seen any of these cartoon shorts in a long time, so maybe I’ve missed something, but this is the first time that it’s occurred to me that maybe the villains aren’t exactly straight either. Have there been references to this in any past episodes?
    Anyways, Great job.

    What’s everyone looking at?
