Disney Releases Opening Titles, Sets Premiere For Aaron Springer’s ‘Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer’

Aaron Springer’s Billy Dilley’s Super-Duper Subterranean Summer has a premiere date on Disney XD.

Disney has also revealed the opening titles for the show:

Billy Dilley will launch with multiple airings on Saturday, June 3 (7:00 am, 11:00 am, 2:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 8:30 pm ET) and new episodes will continue to roll out daily through Thursday, June 15.

Starting June 3, the first 10 episodes of the series will also be available on the Disney XD app and Disney XD VOD platforms.

The series follows the adventures of Billy (voiced by Springer himself) and his classmates Zeke (Tom Kenny) and Marsha (Catherine Wayne), whose summer break takes an unexpected turn when they get stuck in a magical world beneath the Earth’s surface, and must repair Billy’s science fair project, The Cheeserator, to retain to the surface.

Springer’s past credits include Spongebob Squarepants, Samurai Jack, Wander Over Yonder, and Disney’s Mickey Mouse shorts, but as we’ve pointed out before, he’s also known for his projects that never made it past the pilot stage, such as Adult Swim’s Korgoth of Barbaria and Cartoon Network’s Periwinkle Around the World.

Springer is (in my opinion) one of the best pure cartoonists in the L.A. industry, but he’s also developed a reputation over the years as someone who can do other things like write and direct. It will interesting to see how much of his vision stays intact within the constraints of the Disney tv pipeline, but however it turns out, this is one kids’ show that I’m looking forward to checking out.

  • Jack Newman

I wanna know when Ducktales is coming out already.

    • Thought the date was in July. Checked, found nothing. Guess I’m in the same (Duck)boat.

  • Josh Moore

That animation from the intro sure was quirky.

  • Mike

I like the schoolhouse rock kinda aesthetic, but not so big on the stiff animation and almost Uncle Grandpa-esque vibe of the intro. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.

  • Jamie Iles

I remember really enjoying Aaron Springer’s Periwinkle. I’m sure his new series will be great – can’t wait to see it!

  • Slim Cognito

I really like the art style

  • ThatGuy

I don’t like ugly cartoons. And yes, this IS ugly but it’s Aaron Springer. If anyone can make this work he certainly can.

  • Conor Murnane

Aaron Springer is a master surrealist, one of the few left in the field of western animation.

His gags and scenarios are hilarious and his approach to character behavior/interaction is believably (and charmingly) awkward. Also, he wrote the best SpongeBob episodes, so that helps.

Frankly, it’s taken too long for this man to get his own series, but it was worth waiting for.

  • OG Thug McNasty

I’m really excited for Billy Dilley, but the way Disney’s been handling its promotion for it (releasing the first 10 episodes in one day and waiting less than a month from the premiere date to start quietly advertising it) has me worried that they don’t have too much faith in the series.

And while Aaron Springer carries some pretty impressive credentials, the main character himself has an unusually grotesque appearance that I fear might push some people away from checking out the show (similar to what happened with Uncle Grandpa and Clarence, unfortunately).

  • Luzz Hockey

aaron is so fucking talented, and im so excited for this show!!!

  • Marti386

Judging from the title font (and subject matter), it’s going for a Sid & Marty Krofft kinda vibe, but I’m just not digging the “Uncle Grandpa” type designs.

  • Fuzunga

That has a very 90s Cartoon Network look to it.
