Walt Disney Animation Studios has released the teaser trailer for Moana, directed by the estimable directing duo of Ron Clements and John Musker. The film is due on November 23 in U.S. theaters.

Watch it below:

Crew and cast on the film, including actor Dwayne Johnson and screenwriter Jared Bush, have recently been promoting today’s release of the teaser, but after Disney’s UK division posted it online earlier today, they promptly removed it, and Disney has been scrubbing other copies from the internet, too. It’s unclear why they pulled back the teaser or when they’ll put it back online again in an official format. [UPDATE 5:50pm ET: Disney New Zealand just posted an official version which we have embedded above.][UPDATE 3:30am ET MONDAY: Disney New Zealand removed the teaser and we’ve replaced it with another copy above. Disney’s various divisions appear extremely confused about whether they should share the teaser on June 12, which had been the scheduled launch date.]

Moana marks the first foray into full-CG for the team of Clements and Musker, who are best known for their interpretations of classic fairy tales like The Little Mermaid and Aladdin. It is also the first of the seven features they’ve directed that is based on a completely original story; previous films have been adapted from fairy tales (The Princess and the Frog), books (The Great Mouse Detective, Treasure Planet), and classical mythology (Hercules).

Moana is about an adventurous teenage girl who, with the help of demigod Maui, sails on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and save her people.
