Extended 4-Minute Clip from ‘Penguins of Madagascar’

penguinsofmadgascar-extended

Here’s a 4-minute piece from the upcoming Penguins of Madagascar that DreamWorks Animation teased last weekend at New York Comic Con, among other clips from the movie. This excerpt shows the origin of the character Private and includes a guest voice-over by Werner Herzog, who has actually directed a documentary about Antarctica called Encounters at the End of the World. Directed by Eric Darnell and Simon Smith, Penguins opens in U.S. theaters on November 26, 2014.

this is DreamWorks bad habit of showing too much in their trailers and clips , you would go to the movie pretty much knowing every funny moment and joke so really you will not miss anything if you did not sees it !

Cartoon Network just showed 6 full minutes of Over The Garden Wall. I think we shouldn’t target Dreamworks for this alone.

      • WarriorMermaids

Dreamworks does seem to be especially bad about it (though not as much of a problem with their recent films) but yeah, a lot of movies and shows do it.

This was from the beginning of the movie though. So they’re not giving away anything, just letting you watch the first several minutes early if you want to.

    • Picassosaurus

I completely disagree. I know what you mean but this isn’t at all a gag reel. It’s a special extended clip previewed at Comic Con, not a revealing TV commercial or theatrical trailer.

This clip was shown as an extended commercial during Toy Story of Terror! on Wednesday night.

I think I’ve just found another animation cliché here. “Show ‘em as young (at the start)”

    • Picassosaurus

As opposed to showing them young in the middle or at the end of the movie? Uh yeah, that’s not really a trope, it’s just how stories are told. Flashbacks wouldn’t work considering this is an origin story.

      • Jiles

Batman Begins is an origin story which has flashbacks spread throughout the film. It opens with Bruce as an adult. Are you saying because this is animated, it should be linear?

    • Fried

      Trope =/= Cliche.

    • starss

….. okay. That happens in live-action films too.

  • James VanDam

    Looks good.

  • bob

looks fun… the one part i really didn’t care for though was the cliche tv film crew and how they randomly decide to push them off the ledge… Not needed at all.

    • Adzl33t

      I thought that was funny

      • bob

that’s cool… for me it just took me right out of the story and awkwardly shoved me back in.

I died laughing at the nature documentary scene.

  • tt

come on guys! its funny! give them credits! stop being so gloomy!

I wasn’t too impressed with this. I hope the rest of the film is better.

Also, I am wondering if DreamWorks is very concerned about the film’s performance…and maybe showing scenes are to get people intrigued to see the film. I do hope the rest of the film is better (as I said earlier).

Is it me, or am I the only one who feels these movies missed a render or two?

      You are the only one.

  • Nikolas

I enjoyed this clip a lot and it even gave me a few genuine belly laughs. Looking forward to seeing the feature film.

Don’t forget the English dub of The Wind Rises as well!

I have a major soft spot for the Penguins and this cracked me up. Silly fun with a bit of heart thrown in. Probably one of the few animations i’ll bother to see in the cinema this year.
