“Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” trailer

2012 is shaping up to be a great year for animated features. Even the sequels-to-sequels look great. Case in point: Madagascar 3:

  • http://thatssokraven.com/ Kelly Tindall

That looks pretty good! Should be a great year for cartoons.

Cartoons? Really? I dunno, there seems to be a lot more CGI films out this year than cartoons…

  • http://dtoons.com Failed Art Student

That looked like fun up until the part with the circus.

  • Confusion

Looks like fun. Usually films of this ilk don’t do anything for me, but for some reason this series has always been an exception. Not really sure why.

As an aside; Do circuses with animal acts really still exist?

    • Old Man Father Time

Yes. The Big Apple circus and the Barnum and Bailey circus always had animal acts, sometimes with lions, and elephants.

  • Clint H.

Loved the first one, the second was just OK, but this one looks pretty interesting. Looks better than that PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR show.

  • Jez Hall

I’d so have to type some notes about that bad hook-up!

  • http://www.kustomonsters.com Craig Clark

Looks like a hoot! It should “move it” at the Box office!

  • Old Man Father Time

…okay, Marty’s circus dance was stupid but I had me almost falling out of my seat! XD I loved the first two films so I may see this one, even though it appears have a more action-oriented bent in the first third, and the only European characters we seen so far a unappealing.

  • Scarabim

    This actually looks fun!

  • burkiss

please dreamworks, put those talented artists to work on something good. something original. this looks like more of the same – again. ugh.

  • Austin Papageorge

This looks nice, but the subtitle, “Europe’s Most Wanted” has to go.

  • http://www.hobsonanimation.com Kevin

Except for Marty’s clown routine, this looks absolutely hilarious. Looking forward to seeing it.

Am I the only one who noticed the Lion’s hair is completely dry coming out of the water? Great Job.

    • http://tommathieson.blogspot.com/ tom

      i noticed…

    • Bob

You think DWA cannot animate wet hair. They did it in several of their movies (eg: HTTYD) so surely they could have done again. If they did not do it, it is because they did not want to (artistic choice) and not because they couldn’t.

Anyone else exhausted with sequels? Especially in animated features. Tell new stories with new direction that feature new characters, please.

    • http://bunkerrow.blogspot.com Chris Powell

To ‘Madagascar”s defense, these sequels are telling an ongoing story. Its about how they get back to New York :) Thats one hing they have going for it :)

  • DonaldC

Well it certainly looks better than the other 2.

    In my opinion obviously.

  • joe

That Afro Circus thing killed my buzz for an otherwise good trailer.

    • James Fox

Oh Come On, The Circus Afro routine is the best part of the trailer!

  • http://rafatoro.blogspot.com Rafa

Excellent character designgs!!! Humans looks appealing and distinctive, finally not trying to mimic the pixaresque human standard designs that have been done over and over again! That captain Dubois looks hysterical! And the Tiger too!! Cant wait!!

  • http://ramapithblog.blogspot.com David Gerstein

First time I’ve ever liked these characters. I did see ESCAPE II AFRICA—and, well…

Note to Dreamworks: When the only significant female animal in your entire cast is obsessed with traditionally “girly” fashion and romance, I’m sure it makes the brand easier to sell in regions where feminism is frowned upon.

    That’s no excuse.

  • Mike

Ugh..count me out. I really wasn’t a fan of the first two, and something about the human designs in this one is really off-putting.

  • victoria

Pillows are filled with baby birds!! 0_______0

  • Chelsea

I’m not a fan of the Madagascar series but this looks like it could be good. I’m interested to see what they do with the circus. If it turns into an animal rights themed film I’ll be very wary of how it is presented… it would be very frustrating if this turned into something like Happy Feet.

Then again, I don’t know if that’s really current Dreamworks’ style.

  • Michel Van

This gonna be FUN FUN FUN !

  • Scarabim

So are the giraffe and the hippo still an item?

WHAT! I thought it was cute!

  • E. Nygma

For these films I would rather just get the “art of” books than see the film.

I wish a cgi studio would come along that never did sequels. Just a collection of new and original stories…tales. I thought pixar was going to be it for a while, but no. DreamWorks beats all of their movies to death with all the sequels.

  • tredlow

Wow. This is the most excited I’ve ever been about a new Madagascar movie. Not too much, but way more than the first two.

  • http://zeteos.blogspot.com/ mick

I wrote a comment but it was even more boring and disparate than the actual trailer so I deleted it. Previous incarnations of this series I liked, this one seems rather built on sand

Buy me a goose! The biggest goose in ALL of London!

  • J-F.S.S

Paging Dreamworks Animation : get creative this time.

  • DB

One of the coolest things I’ve seen in an animated movie was the way Madagascar 1 recreated the old Central Park Zoo demolished about 20 years ago.

It was a charming, victorian zoo which was great for human spectators but was definitely not designed with the animals’ well-being in mind either.

The present zoo is much better for the animals which is I’m sure on balance is a good thing, but it’s still really sad the beautiful old buildings were torn down.

Except you can always go there via Madagascar 1 – its uncanny how well they captured something that was already gone when (I presume) the film was in pre-production.

So I think its pretty cool the people who made Madacascar 1 did that – they didn’t have to, it seems to have purely been a labor of love.

  • anon

looks fun…but I hate how every animated sequel is turned into some globetrotting international adventure…

  • Becca

I have to admit, I giggled a little bit at Marty dancing around in that ridiculous costume! “Circus, polka dot, AFRO” is my new favorite phrase.

  • Russell H

What would be a great opening short to go with this film?
    OKTAPODI.
