‘Sir Billi’ Retitled ‘Guardian Of The Highlands’ for U.S. Distribution

The 2012 film Sir Billi is to Scotland what Toy Story is to the United States—the country’s first CGI animated feature. Cinedigm and Random Media have renamed the film to the more majestic-sounding Guardian Of The Highlands and will release it on DVD, digital and On Demand on April 8th.

The film, written by Tessa Hartmann and directed by Sascha Hartmann, stars Sean Connery as an old skateboard-loving veterinarian who is on a mission to save Bessie Boo the beaver. It currently has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but that hardly dampens my enthusiasm for seeing the film. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon.

Even Mike knows this will be an epic fail. Perfect.

  • Pierre

There seems to be a lot of talk about chasing smelly beaver in this movie. Smelly beaver stealing balls

  • Roberto Severino

    Cue in the womp womp.

Toy Story and Sir Billi should not be used in the same sentence. Although, I must say that box art is beautiful disaster.

  • George Comerci

That animation would be decent if it was a student film or something. Scotland definitely has room for improvement in terms of animation and storytelling, from what I saw on that clip above. Especially in today’s day and age, where graphics and animation are astounding in other countries, this just looks horrible. I’ll pass.

    • MacAnimator

just because it was made in Scotland, doesn’t mean it’d the best that Scotland has to offer.

    • GS

From what I heard about it, it basically WAS a student film, with everyone learning as they went along. You have to start somewhere, I guess.

“Renamed to sound more majestic”. *looks at cover art* Umm, right….majestic…

  • Austin Papageorge

“The 2012 film Sir Billi is to Scotland what Toy Story is to the United States—the country’s first CGI animated feature.”

    Hey now, that’s just cruel.

  • jhalpernkitcat

If I find this thing in Target and Best Buy, I will laugh like crazy. I highly doubt the title change will help it sell better.

  • Johnny

They should have just called it Highlander.

  • mick

‘theme song by dame shirley bassey!’ … well, that’s me convinced

  • Max C.

Retitling a movie to sound similar to a blockbuster when it already had an English name to begin with? I can’t believe it’s not Phase 4!

  • Mike

Connery won’t do a short cameo in the 4th Indiana Jones movie, but he does this? I mean, Indy 4 wasn’t great, but, this? Sigh

  • Dana

The characters on that cover are just terrifying…

Mommy? I don’t like how that bunny is looking at me…

  • Chris B

Ugh! Anyone else with me in not being able to make it through the entire 4 minutes and 38 seconds?

Two years later after fist disastrous videos, They only change the Title?
poor Sean Connery he has not deserved this….
i hope they find a Scottish Lakes deep enough sink all copy of DVDs.

    “0% on RT” eh?

    “Hardly dampens your enthusiasm” huh???

This writer’s got guts, I give him that. But those guts have proved futile to the trauma he’s probably trying to supress what cannot be unseen even as we speak. Seriously, even Video Brinquedo would balk at such horrors. Amidi would be better off watching Brave.

  • rodtramonte

One word to describe the character design: NIGHTMARISH! O_O

  • megadrivesonic

This a bad start for scottlands first animated film

  • Frank

You should totally do a behind the scenes comic/ blog of how this movie was made, kind of like the ernest and celestine blog.
