Unconfirmed: Nick Park Is Making Soccer-Themed Film ‘Early Man United’

Wallace & Gromit creator and Chicken Run co-director Nick Park has been off the radar since the 2008 release of the Wallace & Gromit film A Matter of Loaf and Death. What is he working on nowadays?

An anonymous Cartoon Brew commenter “BettyBooped” seems to have a pretty good idea thanks to her brother who lives in Bristol, England and “knows someone high up in Aardman’s marketing department.” According to her, Nick Park’s next feature is:

A soccer film which is scheduled to coincide with the 2018 Soccer World Cup, it’s called Early Man United (geddit!) and apparently Manchester United (the greatest soccer team in the world) will endorse it.

This coincides with a recent update of the British Council Film database listing a Nick Park-directed Aardman project called Dug (aka Early Man Utd). They identify the film as “in production” and the producers as Park, Peter Lord, and David Sproxton.

“it’s called Early Man United (geddit!)”

    No. No I don’t.

    • I think it’s going to be a caveman football thing.

About time! The world needs another Nick Park film. It’ll be 10 years since ‘A MATTER OF LOAF & DEATH’ by the time the new one is released. I believe the working title for that one was ‘TROUBLE AT MILL’ so expect ‘EARLY MAN UTD.’ to change at some point too (unless the soccer club insist on such a groan inducing pun).

    Ahem… I think you mean *Football* :P
    We are British after all.

Didn’t Americans originally get the name “soccer” from the British, though? If you think about it, it is a very British-sounding term, being short for asSOCiation football–Americans probably wouldn’t shorten it in this precise manner, but one of you guys would.

Studio Canal has confirmed a new Nick Park film, but it ain’t about Man UTD lol.

‘Set at the dawn of time, when dinosaurs and woolly mammoths roamed the
earth, EARLY MAN tells the story of how one plucky caveman unites his
tribe against a mighty enemy and saves the day!
Created in Aardman’s class stop-motion style, this new film will take audiences into a dramatic prehistoric world and unleash an unforgettable cast of hilarious new characters.
Nick Park will be joined accomplished screenwriters Mark Burton and John O’Farrell to bring this prehistoric adventure to life.
Nick Park said “I’m very excited to be making this film with such great partners – STUDIOCANAL and BFI. And with the support of the incredible team at Aardman – bringing this inept bunch of cavemen to life is going to be a hilarious adventure!”‘

It’s called Early Man and has nothing to do with football.
