The first full-length English-language trailer for Mark Osborne’s Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) has been revealed.
The film centers on a contemporary schoolgirl who discovers the story of The Little Prince through her gravel-toned neighbor (voiced by Jeff Bridges). While the wraparound story is computer-animated, scenes from the story of The Little Prince itself, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s 1943 novella, were shot in stop-motion.
It was announced last week that The Little Prince will have its world premiere in May at the Cannes Film Festival, where it will screen out of competition.
The film is directed by Kung Fu Panda director Mark Osborne and produced by the Montreal arm of Mikros Image, whose parent company was recently acquired by Technicolor. It also features the voices of Marion Cotillard, James Franco, Paul Rudd, Rachel McAdams, Benicio del Toro, Ricky Gervais, Paul Giamatti, Albert Brooks, and Mackenzie Foy (Interstellar) as the little girl. With a US$80 million production budget, it is one of France’s most expensive animated features ever made.
The Little Prince is slated for a July 29 release in France through Paramount Pictures, with a U.S. release date yet to be announced.
