Richard Williams “Silent Stars” logo

Animation legend Richard Williams animated a 30-second signal film for last year’s Pordenone Silent Film Festival, and now that piece will be screened by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences during their forthcoming Summer of Silents film series.

In the film, not yet online, Williams animated many of the great actors and comedians in silent films – morphing one into another – beginning with Chaplin and ending with Buster Keaton. Over twenty actors in all. It will be screened on the first night of the season: June 13th with Humoreque and with The Big Parade on July 18th.

    Looks good.

    I guess this means Richard is still doing service work.

    @2011Adult –

    Yes, Richard Williams is still animating.

    Richard Williams premiered his short film ‘Circus Drawings’ on the opening night of Le Giornate del Cinema Muto, XXX ed. (The 30th Pordenone Silent Film Festival) held October 1-8, 2010.

    It would almost be worth a trip to LA to see a new Richard Williams piece.

    On July 11 the presentation of THE COVERED WAGON will have live musical accompaniment provided by cartoon voice extraordinaire Will Ryan (The Little Mermaid, Thumbelina, Gummi Bears) backed up by the Cactus County Cowboys.

      Wow. Have to say I’m kinda curious about wwhat Garrett Gilchrist, the maker of “The Recobbled Cut” of Williams’ epic animated feature, can have said about Richard Williams that was so off-topic…

      I also hope to see this new animation online soon. And about Circus Drawings… can that film be found anywhere online? I’ve been wanting to see it for a long time, but the only showing I’ve ever heard of was the silent film festival premiere.

        Yep me too! Anyway I’m also itching to see this and circus drawings online.

        Apparently talking about The Thief and the Cobbler isn’t on topic for a Richard Williams post.

        This post is about a new 30-second signal film directed by Williams. Has nothing to do with a film he tried to make forty years ago.

    I watched A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum again recently and Williams’ titles finished with Keaton in that, too!

    I’ve seen this on the premiere of Circus Drawings in Bristol! Very nice to see that was.

    Does anyone know what Richard Williams is doing now? Or if he will be at any event that is attendable by any chance???
