Crunchyroll Is Bringing Japanese Hit ‘Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle’ To U.S. Theaters
Japan’s biggest theatrical release of 2024 to date, the volleyball drama Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle, is headed for global release through Crunchyroll, which has picked up North American and select international theatrical rights.
Based on the Haikyu!! manga, which is one of the bestselling Japanese comic series of the 2010s, the new feature will launch through Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment in North American theaters on May 31, in both subtitled and English-dub versions.

- May 30: Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland (Italian), Argentina, Brazil, Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama), Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru
- May 31: Canada, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom
- June 7: Turkey
- June 12: Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Switzerland (French)
- June 25: Austria, Germany
- June 27: Switzerland (German)
When the film debuted in Japan in February, it had the sixth-biggest opening weekend in that market’s box office history, and has grossed over $60 million to date in its home market.
Dumpster Battle is written and directed by Susumu Mitsunaka, from an original story by manga creator Haruichi Furudate. Production I.G. produced the film.

Shoyo Hinata joins Karasuno High’s volleyball club to be like his idol, a former Karasuno player known as the “Little Giant.” But, Hinata soon finds that he must team up with his middle school nemesis, Tobio Kageyama. Their clashing styles turn into a surprising weapon, but can they beat their rival Nekoma High in the highly anticipated Dumpster Battle, the long awaited ultimate showdown between two opposing underdog teams?
