‘The First Slam Dunk’ Producer Dandelion Animation Studio Adapting Viral Webcomic ‘Eleceed’

Webtoon Entertainment’s Line Digital Frontier has announced an anime adaptation of the hit webcomic Eleceed, partnering with Oscar-nominated Dandelion Animation Studio. This move is part of Webtoon’s growing investment in animation, with 20 anime titles planned for 2025.

Created by Jeho Son and Zhena, Eleceed has garnered over 1.4 billion global views and is available in 10 languages. The story follows Jiwoo Seo, a teenager with secret powers, and Kayden, a powerful being hiding in a cat’s body. Together, they face powerful enemies and uncover hidden conspiracies.

On a new website and X profile dedicated to the adaptation, Jeho Son excitedly announced:

“It feels like a dream to finally share the news that Eleceed is getting an anime adaptation! This is all thanks to our incredible readers who have loved and supported the series. I hope the anime allows even more people to enjoy the world of Eleceed!”

A brief teaser was also published, featuring a bit of animation at the one-minute mark.

The series will be directed by Hiroshi Nishikiori (Idolish7 Movie), with scripts by Yousuke Kuroda (My Hero Academia) and character design by Minami Sakura (Gridman Universe). Dandelion Animation Studio, known for The First Slam Dunk and Oscar-nominated Magic Candies, will produce the adaptation.

Webtoon plans to showcase the anime at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 6, with Dandelion president Kazuhiro Nishikawa scheduled to appear. A special video will also be shown at the Webtoon booth during the convention.

Eleceed is one of several adaptations in Webtoon’s pipeline, joining titles like Omniscient Reader with Aniplex and Crunchyroll, and Teenage Mercenary. Other recent releases include Viral Hit, Tower of God Season 2, True Beauty, and Senpai Is an Otokonoko.

Webtoon Entertainment, with around 150 million monthly active users, continues to expand its storytelling reach through platforms like Webtoon, Wattpad, Line Manga, and ebookjapan.
