Kojima Productions Unveils Anime Feature ‘Death Stranding: Mosquito’ With First Teaser
Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding universe is taking a logical step into the world of anime. Announced during Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary livestream this week, the project, currently titled Death Stranding: Mosquito (working title), marks the studio’s first animated film.
Directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto and produced by ABC Animation Studio, the film will feature a screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners, Raised by Wolves). Kojima himself will serve as producer.
A teaser trailer offered a first look at its unsettling new world, including a clip of a character brawling with a porter in the Timefall and a Beached Thing, hinting at connections to the games’ already existing lore.
Visually, the project boasts a cinematic edge. Hand-drawn linework and dynamic action help balance out a muted color palette that features almost exclusively dark, earthy tones. The game’s familiar yet otherworldly atmosphere seems to translate well in the little bit of footage shared so far. Early footage suggests a high-end production, something that fans have come to expect from Kojima and his studio.
No release window has been set, and the title remains tentative. The announcement follows news of a live-action Death Stranding film in collaboration with A24, directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig), as well as Kojima’s upcoming survival horror project OD.
