The One Piece The One Piece

In yet another example of the incredible commercial power of popular anime IPs, Netflix is expanding its One Piece slate with multiple new projects across animation and live action, including a LEGO animated special and a new anime series from Wit Studio.

The announcements position One Piece as a long-term, broad-audience, trans-media franchise for the streamer, with animation once again playing a central role alongside the ongoing and hyper-popular live-action adaptation.

Headlining today’s announcement is The One Piece, a new anime series currently in production that will re-adapt the East Blue saga from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga. The series is being produced by Wit Studio in collaboration with Toei Animation and Fuji Television.

Unlike the long-running One Piece anime, which debuted in 1999, the new series is described as a reimagining that will use contemporary production techniques and updated visuals. Wit Studio’s involvement suggests a more compact, seasonal approach to storytelling and a more careful aesthetic polish than the original adaptation’s weekly broadcast format.

Netflix also previewed a two-part animated special, LEGO One Piece, which will premiere on September 29. Produced with The LEGO Group, Shueisha, and Atomic Cartoons, the project retells the story of the live-action series’ first two seasons in LEGO form. The special is positioned as both an entry point for new viewers, particularly younger ones, and an alternate take for existing fans, mixing now-familiar LEGO animation comedy with action in a style consistent with previous adaptations featuring the popular toy blocks.

Today’s announcements come as Netflix continues to build on the success of its live-action One Piece series, which recently released its second season and remains a top global performer on the platform’s weekly top 10 lists. The company also confirmed that Season 3, titled One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta, is in production and scheduled for release in 2027.

Offscreen, the streamer is also injecting the franchise into other parts of fans’ everyday lives. A new podcast was announced, and lines of toys, collectibles, and merch are on the way from Moose Toys, NERF, Quiksilver, Funko, Netflix Shop, Penguin Random House, Hot Topic, and Primark. And, of course, more LEGO sets.

Originally created by Oda and published by Shueisha, One Piece is the best-selling manga series of all time, with more than 600 million copies in circulation worldwide. The franchise has supported a continuous anime adaptation for over two decades. With the addition of the LEGO special and a high-profile anime reboot, Netflix is expanding the property beyond its own single flagship adaptation and the anime original into a broader strategy that targets multiple audiences.
