A Condemned Yakuza And A Sentient Flower Reflect On A Life Poorly Lived In ‘The Last Blossom’ Trailer
Pony Canyon has released the trailer for The Last Blossom, the latest feature from Odd Taxi director Baku Kinoshita. The film recently played in Annecy’s official feature competition. (You may need to change the closed caption setting to get English subtitles)
The film’s official synopsis reads:
“What a pathetic life it’s been”
An elderly inmate serving a life sentence awaits a lonely death in his solitary cell—until a voice calls out to him.
It belongs to a balsam flower, Housenka, that speaks like a human.
Through their “conversation,” the old man begins to reflect on the life he’s led.
Kinoshita handled character design and directed the film, based on a script by Kazuya Konomoto, Kinoshita’s collaborator and scriptwriter on Odd Taxi. Produced by Clap Animation Studio, The Last Blossom will premiere in Japan this fall, with distribution handled by Pony Canyon. International release plans to be announced soon.
