WHAT IS THE MOST VALUABLE PIECE OF ARTISTIC ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER RECEIVED, AND FROM WHO?
“I can’t remember if somebody told this to me, but in the moments when I feel creatively stuck there is advice that I try to remind myself: simply not to take myself or things that I do too seriously. One of the best recipes for this is to see, hear, or read artists who inspire me to get into a carefree and silly mood. For example, the song “Dare to be Stupid” by Weird Al Yankovic helps a lot, also reading Daniil Kharms, seeing David Shrigley’s art (when I worry about my drawing style), or watching performances by Reggie Watts. Things like that can set me free from these inner policemen that want everything to be perfect, and, as a result, keep me away from doing anything at all.”
