Netflix’s ‘Lost Ollie,’ Disney’s ‘Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur’ Win Big At Children’s & Family Emmys

The 2023 Children’s & Family Emmys were handed out over the weekend, and Netflix’s hybrid series Lost Ollie won five awards, tying it with Sesame Street for the most of any production.

Lost Ollie‘s awards came mostly from categories dedicated to live-action programs, including best directing for a single-camera live-action program (Peter Ramsey); music direction and composition for a live-action program; editing for a single-camera live-action program; lighting, camera, and technical arts; and visual effects for a live-action program. Industrial Light and Magic handled the special’s photorealistic animation.

Lost Ollie wasn’t Netflix’s only multi-award-winning title. The streamer’s preschool series StoryBots: Answer Time won two awards: best preschool animated series and writing for a preschool animated series.

Disney and Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur series adaptation, produced in collaboration with Australian animation studio Flying Bark Productions, also had a big weekend, scoring four prizes including best animated special, voice directing, main title, and casting for an animated program. Additionally, Kaz Aizawa won an individual achievement in animation award for his work on the show.

Disney’s Baymax! and Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures each won two prizes. Baymax! received best writing for an animated children’s or young teen program and editing for an animated program, while Young Jedi Adventures snagged editing for a preschool animated program and sound mixing and editing for a preschool animated program.

Voice actor Peter Cullen was honored with this year’s lifetime achievement award. Cullen is best known as the long-time voice of Optimus Prime in the Transformers animated and live-action productions and Eeyore in numerous Disney Whinnie the Pooh-based series and specials.
