Ankama Purchases Majority Stake In Andarta, Securing The Future Of The French Indie And Its ‘Ewilan’s Quest’ Adaptation
Ankama Animations, the French studio best known for the transmedia universes of Dofus and Wakfu, has acquired a 51% stake in independent animation studio Andarta Pictures. The deal secures Andarta’s future following its exit from court-appointed receivership and guarantees the completion of its anticipated animated adaptation of Ewilan’s Quest (La Quête d’Ewilan), based on Pierre Bottero’s popular fantasy novels.
“This alliance unites two studios that share the same vision, one of high-quality, meaningful independent animation,” said Anthony Roux, founder and creative director of Ankama. “Together, we aim to craft strong sagas at the crossroads of adventure and self-discovery. A new chapter – both creatively and structurally – is opening with Andarta. A clear artistic alignment, but also a strategic decision oriented towards the future.”
For Ankama, the partnership is a natural extension of its long-standing commitment to world-building across multiple platforms. The Ewilan’s Quest adaptation now joins a 20-year legacy of expansive storytelling that blends fantasy, action, and emotional depth.
“After a challenging first half of the year for Andarta Pictures, the entire team is delighted to join the Ankama group!” said Sophie Saget, founder and producer of Andarta. “Their trust and support will let us sustain our ambitions and face the future with serenity.”
Both studios plan to co-develop new projects rooted in either existing IP or original concepts, pursuing Ankama’s trademark transmedia approach. For fans of French animation, the acquisition signals not only the survival of a creative voice but also the promise of ambitious sagas to come.
