The Disney Channel has announced it will premiere Star Wars Resistance on October 7, at 10pm.

Created by Star Wars Rebels EP/Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni, the “anime-inspired” series centers on young Resistance pilot Kazuda Xiono (Days of Our Lives’ Christopher Sean), who has been assigned to spy on the First Order’s growing threat to the galaxy. The events of the show take place prior to the events in The Force Awakens. Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie reprise their roles as Poe and Captain Phasma, respectively.

Here’s the trailer, which shows the toon-shaded cg style used for the series:

Says Filoni of the series:

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots. My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

Other members of the voice cast include Donald Faison, Jim Rash, Bobby Moynihan, Myrna Velasco, and Rachel Butera.

Lucasfilm Animation produced the series. Athena Portillo, Justin Ridge, and Brandon Auman are executive producers. Amy Beth Christenson is art director.

The show will also be available on Disneynow and Disney Channel VOD, with subsequent airings on Disney XD.
