HBO Max and Cartoon Network Studios debuted the official trailer for the second season of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake during New York Comic Con over the weekend, confirming the animated series will return on October 23 on Max. The 10-episode season will drop weekly through December 25.

The new season picks up where last year’s multiverse-spanning finale left off, following Fionna and Cake as they dive into new adventures while Huntress Wizard sets out on a desperate, high-stakes quest.

The series is led by longtime Adventure Time showrunner Adam Muto, with Fred Seibert and Sam Register executive producing for Cartoon Network Studios. Speaking in Annecy over the summer, Muto, who helped steer the original show through its final seasons, explained, “This time, we wanted to keep most of the adventures in Fiona’s world. And I thought that would make it more normal, but it’s still pretty strange. And that’s kind of baked into Adventure Time DNA.”

Returning voices include Madeleine Martin, Roz Ryan, and Ashly Burch, joined by an eclectic mix of guest talent such as Anna Akana, Maria Bamford, Matthew Broderick, Kumail Nanjiani, Tom Kenny, and Pendleton Ward.

Season one earned strong critical buzz for blending Adventure Time’s surreal humor with more personal, adult storytelling, winning praise – and a Primetime Emmy for character animator Alex Small-Butera – for its art direction and emotional depth. With the new trailer hinting at darker themes and higher stakes, fans can expect another mix of cosmic weirdness and innovative, heartfelt storytelling that keeps the Adventure Time universe evolving alongside its maturing audience.
