‘Your Name’ Gets 10th Anniversary 4K Theatrical Re-Release From GKIDS

GKIDS has released a new trailer for the 4K remaster of Makoto Shinkai’s Your Name, which will return to North American theaters beginning August 14. Tickets are already on sale for screenings in both the original Japanese and an English-language dub.

Written and directed by Shinkai and animated by CoMix Wave Films, Your Name follows Mitsuha, a teenager living in rural Japan, and Taki, a student in Tokyo, who inexplicably begin waking up in each other’s bodies. Their attempts to manage the phenomenon gradually reveal a connection that reaches across time.

Released in 2016, the film became an international hit, earning more than $400 million worldwide and establishing Shinkai as one of anime’s most commercially successful filmmakers. It won best animated feature at the Sitges Film Festival and received honors for animation, directing, screenplay, and music at the Japan Academy Film Prize.

The anniversary reissue joins several other Shinkai films distributed by GKIDS, including Weathering with You, 5 Centimeters per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days.
