Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced this morning that they will release a “timeless classic” onto DVD in June. Could it be that they’ve finally seen the light and are giving animation fans what they’ve been waiting for for years?

These cartoons were “animated the old fashion way, with many hours of hand drawn stills,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, Vice President Family & Animation Marketing and Partner Brands. Speak it, sister!

“They don’t make animation like this anymore,” continued Thomas. Ain’t that the truth!

If you think about it, it’s a no-brainer for Warner Bros. They own one of the most inspired and influential bursts of cartooning greatness ever made by an animation filmmaker: the output of Tex Avery at MGM between 1942-1955. It would be idiotic to not make these films available in a widely accessible format.

It’s not like they hide their classics either. Warner Bros. has released onto Blu-ray all the classic live-action films they own including Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, and Casablanca. Cartoon fans may have had to wait a little longer, but Warner Bros. came through and now they’re going to release the unhinged lunacy of Avery for new generations to discover!

Here’s the cover for the two-disc collection of the “timeless classic” that’ll be out in June:

“We are really proud to be releasing [Filmation’s Tarzan, Lord Of The Jungle: Complete Season One] just in time for the July release of Tarzan in theaters.”

Good job, Warner Bros. You’ve done it again.
