Alcon Entertainment has officially announced a sequel to The Garfield Movie, with Chris Pratt set to reprise his role as the voice of the lasagna-loving feline. The film will once again be distributed by Sony Pictures, following the box office success of the 2024 original, which grossed $234.7 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.

Pratt posted a video to Instagram confirming his involvement, adding:

Alcon co-founders Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson announced the film’s development, confirming Pratt’s return not only as the lead voice but also as a producer. The sequel will be co-produced by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios, with DNEG Animation returning after its praised work on the first film.

The project is still in early development, with producers currently in discussions with potential writers and directors. Additional casting announcements are expected soon.

The first film was directed by Mark Dindal from a screenplay by Paul A. Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and David Reynolds. The Garfield Movie was produced by Columbia Pictures, Alcon Entertainment, Double Negative, One Cool Group, Paws, Prime Focus, Stars Collective Films Entertainment Group, and Wayfarer Studios.
