Final ‘Coyote Vs. Acme’ Trailer Reveals What All The Buzz Was About

Ketchup Entertainment has unveiled the final, full-length trailer for Coyote vs. Acme, and it looks as brilliant as every insider has been claiming for the past several years.

While the first trailer was a fast-paced, gag-filled setup that certainly caught our attention, this new one goes a long way to explaining the incredible industry buzz around Coyote vs. Acme since it was inexplicably shelved by Warner Bros. three years ago.

The new footage reveals the scale, ambition, and surprising emotional weight of director Dave Green’s live-action-animation hybrid. There is still plenty of slapstick, including some terrific-looking variations on the elaborate disasters Wile E. Coyote has endured for generations. But the trailer also establishes a real story, centered on the relationship between Coyote and Kevin Avery, the struggling attorney played by Will Forte who agrees to represent him in a lawsuit against the Acme Corporation.

It’s a smart follow-up to the first trailer, with more boardroom comedy, a more measured pace, and a clearer sense of how naturally the animated characters inhabit the live-action world. Most encouragingly, it suggests that the filmmakers have treated Wile E. as a character worth caring about, not merely an indestructible delivery system for gags. It’s the kind of twist on a classic that is easy to get behind as a viewer.

All of this helps explain the extraordinary enthusiasm surrounding the film from the few industry folks who got an early taste. Cartoon Brew’s Amid Amidi, who watched it in 2023, called it “SUPERB!” and praised its unexpectedly affecting portrait of the famously obsessive Coyote. Based on this trailer, viewers may soon understand exactly what all the fuss was about.

Written by Samy Burch and inspired by Ian Frazier’s 1990 New Yorker story, Coyote vs. Acme also stars John Cena, Lana Condor, and Tone Bell. Ketchup Entertainment will release the film in theaters on August 28.
