Spin Master Entertainment, the toy and entertainment company behind global hit PAW Patrol, has announced it is producing its first-ever original animated feature to be directed by acclaimed family filmmaker David Soren. The project marks a major expansion of Spin Master’s footprint in theatrical animation, with a planned release in 2029.

“The announcement of this original film showcases our ambition to expand our foothold in the family animated theatrical business,” said Jennifer Dodge, president of Spin Master Entertainment. “As we broaden our content portfolio, we’re partnering with leaders in the industry to tell original, engaging stories, while also leveraging our established catalogue of IP. With David’s well-earned reputation in family entertainment, we believe this feature film will inspire and entertain audiences around the globe.”

Details, including plot, aesthetic, and animation techniques, are being kept under wraps, but the project is described as a four-quadrant film, appropriate for kids and families.

Soren, a BAFTA and Annie Award nominee, is best known for directing Turbo and Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. His credits also include co-writing and directing Under the Boardwalk and contributing to iconic animated franchises such as Shrek, Chicken Run, Shark Tale, and Madagascar.

The new film’s screenplay is written by Ian Southwood, based on a story from veteran children’s content creator Chris Dicker. Dodge will produce alongside Laura Clunie and Toni Stevens, who previously guided Spin Master’s PAW Patrol theatrical outings. Southwood recently contributed to Netflix’s Oscar-nominated Nimona, while Dicker brings more than 25 years of experience in kids’ entertainment to the project.

The film joins Spin Master’s growing slate, which includes PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie, set for release in July 2026, and a live-action Bakugan adaptation directed by Brad Peyton.

With this milestone, Spin Master says it is committed to delivering “world-class content across genres and generations with captivating storytelling and engaging characters for screens of all sizes.”
