Hugely popular YouTuber and streamer Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White’s comic Godslap is being adapted into a 2d hand-drawn animated feature, scheduled for release in 2028.
Lyrical Animation and White’s Meatier Productions are producing the film, which is already in production at Austin, Texas’s increasingly busy Powerhouse Animation Studios. Godslap will be directed by Kellan Stover (Sonic Frontiers Prologue: Divergence) from a screenplay by Lyrical Animation creative director Daniel Dominguez and the division’s head, Jacob Robinson.
One of the hottest U.S. indies going today, Powerhouse is best known for its work on Netflix’s adult-oriented action series, including Castlevania, Castlevania: Nocturne, Blood of Zeus, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, and Seis Manos.
White announced the project on his YouTube channel and shared a brief teaser featuring footage from the film.
The story follows Aius, an 18-year-old farm boy raised in isolation by a father who regards his son’s extraordinary power as a curse. After one night of rebellion costs him everything, Aius must decide whether the destructive force in his hands makes him a monster or the only person capable of bringing down the corporation that controls his world.
In a release announcing the adaptation, White said:
It’s always been a dream of mine to make an animated movie, especially with a studio like Powerhouse, so I couldn’t be more excited. We’ve got an amazing team, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what we’re making.
White, who has more than 25 million followers across his various channels, created Godslap with Jackson Clarke, Danny Palmer, and Matt Phillips. The comic launched in 2022 through the group’s publishing company Bad Egg and has sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide.
Dominguez added:
We’ve been longtime fans of Charlie, so getting the opportunity to bring his anime-inflected, hilariously violent comic Godslap to life was a dream come true. It’s one of the funniest, most non-stop surprising, and thematically urgent comics to come out in the last decade, and a perfect story to adapt as an animated feature.
Godslap is the latest creator-led genre property on Lyrical Animation’s slate. The company is also developing an animated feature based on FromSoftware and Playstation’s gothic action game Bloodborne. That project is being produced with Playstation Productions and Irish creator Seán McLoughlin, better known online as Jacksepticeye, with Lyrical Media and Sony Pictures co-financing.
