The Nut Job 2 The Nut Job 2

Korea’s RedRover is headed to this year’s American Film Market (AFM) with a trio of titles from its pipeline, led by The Nut Job 3, the latest installment in the studio’s best-known franchise.

The previous two Nut Jobs have grossed more than $200 million worldwide, although the second posted a historically bad opening weekend in the U.S. RedRover would do well to invest a bit more in marketing if it plans a similarly wide opening to that film, which screened in a massive 4,000 theaters.

The third film in the franchise will follow Surly’s daughter, Hazel, on a coming-of-age journey that tests her bond with her father while longtime nemesis Raccoon returns for revenge.

First reported by Variety, RedRover is also developing Rainmakers, an auspiciously timed original K-pop-inspired feature that marks the company’s first step into music-driven storytelling. The film will be written and directed by Korean filmmaker Lee Seok-hoon, known for The Pirates, The Himalayas, and Confidential Assignment 2: International, one of Korea’s top-grossing films of 2022.

Set on the planet Nero, Rainmakers follows an orphan and a princess who unite with a group of misfits to challenge a powerful corporation threatening their world. The movie will feature original songs from a yet-to-be-announced K-pop producer, with music and choreography influencing both the story and visual direction.

Rounding out RedRover’s AFM lineup is MegaRacer, a sci-fi action adventure set amid a rare cosmic event that propels racers through time and space in pursuit of competitive glory and supernatural powers. The project is currently in post-production.
