Gobelins And Escuela Escena Are Launching A Mexican Short Film Incubator
Mexico City-based animation school Escuela Escena is launching the Animation Short Film Incubator Program, in partnership with famed French animation school Gobelins Paris.
The program is set to begin in Mexico early next year, and it is open to both students of Escena (at no charge) and outside participants. Fifteen selected students will work in teams to produce an original short 2d animated film, under professional studio conditions. Similar to the Gobelins program structure, participants will go through all stages of the animation pipeline, from scriptwriting and storyboarding to final sound and picture.
“At Escena, we’ve spent years striving to meet the highest standards of production quality, with the goal of positioning ourselves among the top schools worldwide,” Andres Buzo, general director and co-founder of Escena, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to launch a joint program with a school we regard as a benchmark of excellence and creativity in our industry. I’m excited to see the remarkable achievements our Mexican students will reach through this partnership.”
The program will include intensive in-person workshops and specialized advice at each stage of the short film’s development, led by teachers from both schools. It aims to foster the creation of original IPs, enhance professional skills, promote entrepreneurship, and showcase the emerging talent of Mexican animators on the international stage.
Applications to join the yearlong program are open until October 15, 2025. To learn more about how to apply for the program, visit the Escuela Escena website.
