‘Mouse in Transition’: Detour Into Disney History (Chapter 6)

Before I got hired at Disney Features, I sold a few magazine articles and developed a love of writing for print, where there was nothing between writer and reader but words on a page. When I became a Disney employee, I realized I was surrounded by animation veterans with vivid memories of the rambunctious days at the old Hyperion studio, and the creative struggles that went into making "Snow White," "Pinocchio," and the other early features. Talking to older Mouse House staffers, it dawned on me they could provide great source material for articles.

Animation Torrent Festival Will Debut in Chicago Next Month

The United States has surprisingly few animation festivals for a country of its size, but increasingly we are seeing smaller local events that serve as a substitute for the festival experience. Animation Breakdown is an ongoing series in Los Angeles, and Chicago animation fans, who already enjoy the Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation, will see the arrival of Animation Torrent next month.

Kirby Atkins is Making Progress On His Feature ‘Beast of Burden’

While working on his short film "Mutt" in 1999, television writer/animation director Kirby Atkins ("3-2-1 Penguins," "The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius") conceived of a new idea about anthropomorphized cartoon animals. Over time, that idea evolved into the concept for his new feature "Beast of Burden," which is currently in development at Huhu Studios in New Zealand.
