With Avatar: Seven Havens arriving to rave early reviews, Paramount+ unveiled the franchise’s next animated series: Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. The streamer also renewed Seven Havens for Books 3 and 4 on the day its first three episodes premiered.

Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko announced both projects at a panel at New York Comic Con today. While Seven Havens moves the franchise forward with a new Avatar, the Kuruk series will turn back the clock to follow one of Aang’s predecessors.

Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos centers on a rebellious teenage Avatar who breaks with thousands of years of tradition, choosing to master the four elements through globetrotting adventures. Along the way, he must stay ahead of an angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits while finding his own ways to help the world.

Konietzko will serve as showrunner on the new series, which is produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studio. Panel attendees received a first look at Kuruk and his pet, Nikik. Paramount+ has not announced a premiere date.

The Seven Havens renewal extends the story of Avatar Pavi and her twin sister Nisha through four Books. The first book has 13 episodes, with the opening three now streaming on Paramount+. Episodes 4–6 arrive October 16, episodes 7–9 on October 23, and the final four on October 30. Details on Books 2, 3, and 4 will follow later.

The announcement comes amid an encouraging critical reception for Seven Havens. The Hollywood Reporter’s verdict was “Feels good to be back,” while The Wrap called the opening six episodes “engrossing, rich, and entertaining.”
