Thailand’s RiFF Studio has released the first teaser for its upcoming animated horror anthology Dark Dimension, and its as unsettling as anything we’ve seen in a long time.

Inspired by Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots, the series’s first episode, “Taxi,” follows a late-night driver who picks up an enigmatic passenger on a small side street. The driver quickly becomes lost in Bangkok’s labyrinthine alleys before discovering that he and his passenger have crossed into another world.

Eventually, the goal is to produce a full season of six or seven Dark Dimensionsstories, each inspired by and drawing from “Thai urban landscapes, forgotten alleys, rituals, and folklore, while tackling social themes such as inequality, obsession, and the meaning of life,” according to the studio.

“We wanted to create something that blends the cinematic horror tradition of Thailand with the global appeal of anthology animation, similar to ‘Love, Death + Robots,’ but deeply rooted in Thai identity,” explained Veerapatra Jinanavin, director and co-founder of RiFF Studio.

RiFF is one of a number of emerging indie animation studios in Southeast Asia and is interested in developing its own IPs as well as collaborating on international co-productions. The company previously co-produced the Thai-Chinese animated feature Out of the Nest, which screened at Annecy in 2024.

Dark Dimension is being produced with support from Thailand’s Department of Cultural Promotion, the Ministry of Culture, and THACCA – the Thailand Creative Culture Agency.

No news yet on when Season 1 might be delivered, but we’ll be tracking this project closely and keeping our readers updated with any developments.
