Gargoyles Gargoyles

Disney’s Gargoyles may be preparing to return to animation more than three decades after its debut.

Brent Spiner, who voiced Puck in the original series, revealed the project during an episode of Dropping Names with Brent and Jonny, the podcast he co-hosts with fellow Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Jonathan Frakes. Their guest was another TNG cast member, Michael Dorn. Both Frakes and Dorn also had recurring roles on Gargoyles. Frakes voiced David Xanatos, while Dorn voiced Coldstone and Taurus.

“They’re doing Gargoyles again,” Spiner said. When Frakes noted that revival rumors have circulated for years, including an officially announced live-action adaptation, Spiner clarified: “No, no. I was told this morning. It’s another animated series.”

Disney has not formally announced the animated project, and no information is available about its creative team, cast, format, or release plans. It is also unclear whether the series would continue the original story or reboot the property.

Created by Greg Weisman and produced by Walt Disney Television Animation, Gargoyles debuted in 1994 and followed a clan of ancient Scottish gargoyles transported to modern-day Manhattan. The series stood apart from much of Disney’s television output at the time with its serialized storytelling, gothic atmosphere, and extensive use of mythology and Shakespearean themes.

The show ran for 78 episodes across three seasons, although Weisman has long regarded most of the third season, The Goliath Chronicles, as non-canon. He has continued the story through several comic series published by Dynamite Entertainment.
