WATCH: Netflix’s ‘Big Mouth’ Ended Its Eight Season Run With A Live Table Read
With eight seasons and 81 episodes under its belt, Netflix’s audacious adult animated series, Big Mouth, finished its run on May 23, 2025.
Created by Andrew Goldberg, Nick Kroll, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett, the series hilariously tracked the misery of puberty, as seen through the eyes of Nick Birch (Nick Kroll), a “late bloomer” from Westchester County New York, and his circle of friends. As their bodies changed and morphed through middle school into their teens, the kids were guided by their Hormone Monsters who provided pretty sketchy guidance as they suffered the embarrassments of nature’s ruthless changes.
To celebrate the fact that Big Mouth is Netflix’s longest-running scripted animated series, the studio collected their core cast of vocal performers to do a live table read of the finale episode, “The Great Unknown,” written by Gil Ozeri. Watch it below:
In the closing episode, the core kids, now teens in high school, return to Bridgeton Middle School to reminisce about their time there before it is demolished. Reunited for the moment, they all take stock of the changes they’ve gone through personally, and together, under the guidance of their Hormone Monsters.
Executive producer Mark Levin served as the master of ceremonies for the event. He opened the reading, taped in front of a live audience, by setting context for Big Mouth (and its 20-episode spin-off Human Resources) and speaking of the show’s impact and legacy at Netflix. Joining Levin, Kroll, and Ozeri at the table were cast other castmembers John Mulaney, Jason Mantzoukas, Maya Rudolph, Fred Armisen, Richard Kind, Maria Bamford, Jessi Klein, June Diane Raphael, Gil Ozeri, L.E. Correia, Jasmine Pierce, Seth Morris, Joe Wengert, Andrew Goldberg, Jennifer Flackett, Walter Kelly, and Peter Kelly.
There were tears abound from the cast at the table, including Kroll, as the characters in the script entered the bright, white-light engulfing Bridgeton which represents their unblemished futures ahead of them. The last two characters to enter are best friends Nick and Andrew Glouberman (Mulaney) who grab hands and then step confidently into the void together. The whole troupe received a standing ovation from the audience.
Kroll thanked everyone present and their crew (including animation studio Titmouse), and closed what he called “a literal experience of a lifetime,” adding that, “as long as the internet doesn’t stop existing, people will be able to watch this show for a really long time.”
