‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ Shows Off New Franchise Aesthetic In First Trailer
The next chapter in the Adventure Time franchise is almost here, and it marks one of the series’ biggest creative departures to date. Adventure Time: Side Quests premieres June 29 on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S., with an international rollout planned through Cartoon Network and HBO Max.
The first trailer was unveiled today by The Wrap, offering fans an early look at the new series, which revisits Finn and Jake during their younger adventuring days. Rather than continuing the increasingly lore-heavy storytelling explored in recent spin-offs, Side Quests returns to the duo’s classic monster-fighting, quest-taking formula that launched the original series.
The characters remain instantly recognizable, but the animation is entirely new. Backgrounds are brighter, colors are more vibrant, and the overall presentation feels more fluid and expressive than the original series. The look retains the charm and simplicity that defined early Adventure Time, but is flatter and more two-dimensional. It’s got an almost storybook feel to it.
Produced by Cartoon Network Studios, Side Quests was first announced at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival by yours truly. The series is led by original Adventure Time veteran Nate Cash as showrunner and executive producer. Returning cast members include John DiMaggio, Tom Kenny, Hynden Walch, Olivia Olson, and Niki Yang.
Side Quests joins a growing slate of Adventure Time projects that includes previously released titles Distant Lands and Fionna and Cake, and the upcoming Heyo BMO.
