Animation Coming To Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, And More In August 2022

August is packed with big-name animated features, series, and specials heading to streaming platforms.

Theatrical fare heading to platforms this month includes Pixar’s Lightyear, which will look to improve on its underwhelming box office performance. Lightyear will be available to stream on Disney+ on August 5.

NBCUniversal/Illumination’s Minions: The Rise of Gru, which is still dominating at the box office, is scheduled to drop onn Peacock in August, although we don’t have a precise release date yet. We do know that late last year the streaming service announced it would get every Dreamworks and Illumination film 45-days after they hit theaters, meaning the latest Minions feature is likely to land on the platform in mid-August.

Direct-to-streaming debuts in August include Netflix’s Lost Ollie, a limited series from creator Shannon Tindle and director Peter Ramsey, and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. The streamer is also dropping new episodes of The Cuphead Show and the first of two Fullmetal Alchemist features.

On August 5, Apple TV+ will launch Luck, its first-ever animated feature, produced with Skydance Animation. Meanwhile, Paramount+ continues to up its animation game with the additions of the Beavis and Butt-Head series reboot and season three of Star Trek: Lower Decks.
