Eyes of Wakanda Eyes of Wakanda

Disney+ dropped a big surprise for Black Panther fans today, when the streamer announced it will debut Marvel’s Eyes Of Wakanda on August 1, 2025, ahead of its previously slated dates of August 6, then on August 27. The platform also dropped a trailer for the series, seen below.

Here’s what we know about Wakanda Forever based on a brief press release and Disney’s Annecy presentation in June:

  • Eyes of Wakanda is an animated spin-off of the Black Panther franchise, told in an “anthology adjacent” format across four self-contained episodes.
  • The four-episode series is directed and executive produced by Todd Harris (John Wick, Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and created in collaboration with Proximity Media’s Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, and Kalia King. The series also lists Ryan Coogler, Brad Winderbaum, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Dana Vasquez-Eberhardt as executive producers.
  • The first episode, “Into the Lion’s Den,” which screened to an enthusiastic reception at Annecy last month, is set in 1260 B.C. and follows Noni, a disgraced former Dora Milaje, on a mission to recover stolen Wakandan technology.
  • CG and stylized 2D effects are combined to create the show’s animation style, featuring a hand-drawn opening inspired by traditional charcoal sketches. Both original Black Panther production teams and modern global art trends informed the show’s visual and thematic design.
  • Visual design draws on a mix of African cultural aesthetics and sci-fi, influenced by artists like Dean Cornwell and Ernie Barnes.
  • Disney’s synopsis for the show reads: The new show follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda.
  • Joining previously announced voice cast members Cress Williams and Winnie Harlow are Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose.
