Helluva Boss Helluva Boss

Prime Video made its Annecy debut in a big way on Wednesday, using its first-ever Studio Focus presentation at the festival to unveil casting, renewal, and premiere-date announcements for several of its flagship animated series.

Held before a packed audience at the Salle de la Volière, the panel featured Prime Video head of animation Melissa Wolfe alongside producers and creators Robert Kirkman, Vivienne Medrano, Sam Riegel, and Dave Wilson. The presentation also offered attendees exclusive footage from several upcoming projects.

Prime Video arrived at Annecy later than many of its streaming and studio rivals. While Netflix, Disney, Warner Bros. Discovery, and others have spent years using the festival as the industry’s premier stage to break news, unveil footage, court creators, and signal their animation ambitions, Amazon had never fully embraced that approach. Until now, its presence at Annecy had largely been limited to individual titles appearing in competition or participating in panels organized by production and distribution partners.

Its first dedicated Studio Focus panel marks a shift in that strategy. With a growing lineup that now includes major franchises, creator-driven hits, and several high-profile projects in development, Prime Video appears ready to use Annecy more like its competitors do, as a showcase for both its current slate and its long-term commitment to animation.

The move also reinforces Annecy’s status as animation’s most important annual gathering.

‘Helluva Boss’ Sets October Premiere

Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss creator Vivienne Medrano used the panel to reveal when fans can expect the next chapter of the independently produced demon comedy.

The first half of Helluva Boss season three will premiere on Prime Video on October 14.

Medrano also debuted the first footage from the new season for Annecy audiences, continuing Prime Video’s partnership with one of online animation’s most successful creator-driven franchises.

‘Invincible’ Gets A Sixth Season

Invincible co-creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman announced that the superhero series has been renewed for a sixth season, making it Prime Video’s longest-running animated original to date.

Kirkman also revealed a new addition to the show’s cast. Jack Quaid, who already voices Mark Grayson in the series, will take on an additional role in season five, playing the character Gravitator, also known as Chris. Annecy attendees were shown an exclusive clip featuring the character.

The renewal continues a strong run for the Skybound Animation-produced series. According to Prime Video, the recently released fourth season has become the show’s most-watched season so far.

New Looks At Critical Role’s Animated Universe

Critical Role co-founder Sam Riegel brought new footage from both of the company’s animated Prime Video series.

For The Legend of Vox Machina, attendees were shown a clip from the fourth season finale featuring Pike’s confrontation with The Whispered One, also known as Gideon. The complete fourth season is now available on Prime Video.

Riegel also previewed footage from The Mighty Nein, the upcoming spinoff based on Critical Role’s second tabletop campaign. The clip featured the adventuring party defending the city of Nicodranas during a goblin attack.

‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ Returns This Summer

Prime Video also unveiled the official trailer for the second season of Batman: Caped Crusader, confirming that all ten episodes of the new season will launch on July 31.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series reimagines Gotham City through a noir-inspired lens and was one of the most anticipated returning titles highlighted during the presentation.

More Projects In Development

Beyond its existing lineup, Prime Video also offered updates on several previously announced animated projects currently in development.

Among them was Conan the Barbarian, which is being developed by Cartoon Network Studios with Genndy Tartakovsky attached as creator, as we detailed in our Warner Bros. Animation piece.

The company also highlighted ongoing development on Wytches, Lore Olympus, and Odd Jobs.

While few new details were revealed about those projects, the presentation underscored Prime Video’s growing ambitions in animation and its efforts to build a lineup spanning adult animation, creator-driven originals, superhero adaptations, and established entertainment brands.

For a streamer that had never before mounted a dedicated Annecy presentation, Prime Video’s presence alone provided another clear message: animation has become a central part of its programming strategy, and it plans to compete alongside the other streaming giants.
