‘Iyanu: The Age Of Wonders’ Animated Movie To Premiere August 30 On Cartoon Network, HBO Max
Fantasy franchise Iyanu is expanding its universe with the premiere of Iyanu: The Age of Wonders, an all-new feature film debuting Saturday, August 30, on Cartoon Network and HBO Max.
Announced during the Iyanu’s Journey: The Next Chapter panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the film serves as a prequel set 500 years before the rise of the titular heroine. Fans were also treated to a first glimpse of the teaser trailer, poster, and select visuals from the upcoming second season of the series, set for release in 2026.
Set in ancient Yorubaland, The Age of Wonders explores a time when magic flourished and legendary beings known as the Divine Ones walked the earth. The story follows two young warriors, Dara and Ishe, who must rise to stop Meje, the embodiment of the seven deadly sins, from plunging the world into darkness.
Lion Forge Entertainment, Impact X Capital, Superprod, and Forefront Media Group produce the franchise’s audiovisual adaptations, based on the graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder, written by Okupe and published by YouNeek Studios and Dark Horse Comics.
The voice cast features an all-African lineup, including Shaffy Bello as Emi, Babajide Oyekunle as Joba, Ike Ononye as Ishe, and Sisan Victor-Woko as Dara. Roye Okupe, the series creator, co-wrote and directed the film alongside series story editor Brandon Easton.
“This film is a love letter to African mythology and a celebration of our heritage,” said Okupe. “We’re expanding the world of Iyanu in a way that honors its origins while giving fans new heroes and legends to connect with.”
Season 2 of Iyanu will pick up with the heroine facing a powerful new threat and the reawakening of ancient magic, promising even higher stakes in the battle to preserve balance in Yorubaland.
