Expanded ‘Disney Afternoon Collection’ Of ’80s And ’90s Console Favorites Is Heading To Switch And Switch 2
Fan-favorite characters from shows of years past, like DuckTales, Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, TaleSpin, and more, are headed to Nintendo’s Switch and Switch 2 consoles early next year in the Disney Afternoon Collection, a nostalgia bomb sure to appease more than a few millennials who have graduated out of big, TV-attached consoles in favor of easier to use handheld devices.
First released in 2017 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, the compilation revived a set of beloved Capcom-developed Disney titles from the late ‘80s and early ’90s. That first edition featured six Nintendo Entertainment System releases, all based on series that defined Disney’s weekday afternoon programming block for generations of pre-streaming viewers.
The new Switch-exclusive version expands the lineup to eight games, adding Super Nintendo titles Goof Troop and Bonkers. Their inclusion marks the first time either game has been officially available on Nintendo Switch hardware, giving fans a chance to revisit two of the era’s most memorable side-scrolling adaptations.
The updated collection also brings tech-enabled quality-of-life changes to the retro experience. Players can rewind gameplay, save progress at any time, and pursue special challenge modes not available in the original games. An expanded, curated gallery section is also included in the package, featuring concept art, music, and historical materials that document the development of these adaptations.
With portable play and the modern features players expect in 2026, the release offers longtime fans and younger newcomers alike an accessible gateway to animated favorites from decades past. And with recognizable IP now central to many studios’ strategies, it is no surprise that Disney and Nintendo are revisiting franchises that helped define both early console gaming and a generation of after-school television.
