Rocky & Bullwinkle Meet the GEICO Gecko

While we await the release of Gary Trousdale’s Rocky & Bullwinkle short, here’s a new GEICO spot that pairs the Jay Ward duo with the GEICO Gecko. The indefatigable 96-year-old June Foray voices Rocky, a role that she originated 55 years ago, while Tom Kenny (voice of SpongeBob) tackles Bullwinkle.

  • Is this technically the first glimpse we’ll be seeing of Dreamworks’ CG Rocky & Bullwinkle? Because these models look SO much better than the ones posted back in November.

Tom Kenny does a great Bullwinkle, but whoever’s doing Rocky’s voice sounds way too young to be June Foray.

Tom Kenny’s Bullwinkle reminds me quite a bit of his Heffer voice from “Rocko’s Modern Life.”

      …which is good!
And it’s DEFINITELY June Foray as Rocky. I was impressed by how good she sounded!

  • Surprisingly, they look alright! Can’t wait to see the short!

  • Zekey

Mr.Winkle is like…such an oddly spooky name if you think about it.

  • AmidAmidi

I’m pretty sure that June recorded the spot. Whether they edited or changed her voice, I don’t know.

  • Rick Dolishny

Compared to the 3D Snoopy clips I’ve seen this didn’t leave a bad taste in my mouth at all. In fact, I think it looks pretty good! Kudos to the modellers and animators.

Funny if you asked I would have never remembered Bullwinkle wore white gloves.

    • Chris Sobieniak

I still wish he didn’t have yellow antlers myself.

I watcht this on YT and put the RJS speaking part on a continuous loop. And to it I listened, listened HARD. And you know what? What we got here is A CRIME AGAINST Ms JUNE FORAY. RJS sounds not a damn thing like her. I discerned NONE of her vocal qualities; in this ad, RJS sounds like he’s enacted by….some kind of young Canadian voice actress. (NAYCVA, but….DAMN!)
When one hears RJS, one expects, and has a right, to hear Ms F. But, damn it, I’m sad to say, no such Woman is heard in this ad. Could GEICO/them, as Amidi has upbrought, have CHANGED/EDITED Ms F’s voice?

the animation and models are still ugly. the eyes are an extremely unapealing shape. Sort of real but not. the voice work is very good.

  • Pez

oh and the shot were the cut close on rocky just so he can turn his head away from camera. stupid.

  • Kyle_Maloney

Honestly I thought they looked (and sounded) better in the live action 2000 movie

  • King
    • Well, that’s one mystery that can be put to rest…it honestly fooled me. She’s just that good!

  • Chris Sobieniak

Don’t you remember how the Gecko felt about that?

  • Chris Sobieniak

Still I don’t care, we deserve it!

  • Mark Kausler

I know what June Foray’s voice sounds like, and that isn’t her. Bullwinkle’s done funnier puns than that one.

  • starss

No. The company, distributor, and creatives behind this iteration of the character have nothing to do with the hybrid live-action movie from years ago.

Glad to hear, I may have come off as overly harsh in my post but I only had one small image to go off. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Rocky and Bullwinkle and I was looking forward to seeing them in front of Peabody. If it was as good as you said it’s a shame it got shelved.

  • Jim Engel

She can SAY it, but it’s not her. Bullwinkle sounds awful, and the both look terrible.

  • sprongthewonderbull
