GKIDS Celebrates 5-Year Anniversary with NYC Retrospective

GKIDS, the New York-based distributor of independent and foreign animation for children and families has announced a fifth anniversary retrospective—An Animated World: Celebrating Five Years of GKIDs Classics—that will run at the IFC Center in Manhattan between December 20th and January 2nd.

Among the eighteen animated features in the program, there are two sneak peeks (Ernest and Celestine and A Letter to Momo, both 2013 Oscar hopefuls) and three U.S. theatrical premieres (Eleanor’s Secret, Nocturna, Welcome to the Space Show), as well as a 25th anniversary double-bill of Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies. Here’s the complete lineup:

    I wish GKids was clearer about its distribution plans. They got four films (“Zarafa”, “Ernest and Celestine”, “A Letter to Momo”, “Approved for Adoption”) that they’ve been saying will get releases, but they haven’t posted their distribution schedules yet. It’s very frustrating.

    I really want to see A Letter to Momo, but there’s hardly anything about it in the US! I hope it gets a release soon…
